Valid, perhaps. Still a narrowed tang. spektek9 seemed to think it was full tang. Thank you for providing this useful information for all the readers! Merry Christmas sir!

The pommel is pinned from the side. You can actually see the pin on some older knives due to difference in the type of aluminum used for the pin, on newer knives you have to make an effort to look for it but sometimes it is discernible as move the pommel on light. This is a very valid method also used on many other knives like the traditional style Ka-Bar, Ontario and Camillus knives issued to the Marines

Yes the symbols represent year of manufacture. You can google manufacturing dates of Buck knives to find out more about it. I have one with an inverted U that was made in 1993 if I remember well. Great knife. Hard to sharpen though...

Wal-Mart is able to sell these knives as well as a lot of other products cheaper due to volume sales. As the Buck rep states, the company refuses to lower the quality of the product for any retailer and that definitelly applies to the knife itself but not the scabbard. Even the leather scabbard is now made in Mexico, as marked on the sticker in the plastic liner but the quality is still there somewhat.

It may be a good value and it may be what you want but the thing is the nylon is cheaper than leather and the sheath is part of the product, if someone never bought a 119 somewhere else they might not ever know it was different. many people would think its the same product as in other stores and think they got it cheaper at walmart, that is deceptive. That is the way walmart does business.

a lot of people rather have the nylon since it doesn't hold water as bad as leather |
